MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE LEE TOWNSHIP

PLANNING COMMISSION, WHICH TOOK PLACE ON TUESDAY,

MARCH 6, 2007, LEE TOWNSHIP HALL, MIDLAND, MICHIGAN

PRESENT:  Planning Commissioners – Carol Alexander, Darla Rippee, Lee Thompson, Tom York, and Dale Wolfgang

ABSENT:   None

OTHERS PRESENT:  Tim Smith, Enforcement Officer

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chair Tom York.

It was moved by Lee Thompson, seconded by Darla Rippee, that the minutes of the regular meeting of February 6, 2007, be approved as written.  Motion carried.

There was no correspondence, and there were no public comments.

Tom noted that the Frederickson property was not discussed at the January Township Board meeting.  He also said that apparently the Township Board is still debating enforcement of a proposed rental housing ordinance that the Planning Commission sent to the Township Board.

Dale said the Township Code Authority is apparently having problems with the Building Official, in that his State certification has expired.

The Commission continued its review of the proposed new Lee Township Zoning Ordinance starting with Article 4.  Lee indicated that he had problems with the restrictions proposed in Article 3, as they apply to home occupations, stating that he totally disagrees with it.  Tom explained that many of those same restrictions have been in effect in the Township Ordinance since 1992.  Lee also questioned the need for a minimum five acres for farm animals.

ENFORCEMENT OFFICER’S REPORT:  Tim reported that Ed Schultz was given until March 16 to clean up his property.  Tim expects another court date will be set, as the cleanup is not happening.  There has been no activity on the Maddox property on West Gordonville Road.

Tom advised Tim of a vacant mobile home that has been sitting for several months on property on the west side of Nine Mile Road about a quarter mile north of Olson Road.  A new mobile home is now on the property, and the old one is sitting just west of the ditch.  Tim said it should have been taken care of by the Township Code Authority as part of the building permit for the new mobile home.  This situation will be looked into.

The Commission set a meeting for March 19 at 6:30 to continue review of the proposed Ordinance.  Discussion will begin with Article 7.  Tom said he will ask the Supervisor for a joint meeting between the Planning Commission and the Township Board to address the proposed Ordinance so review can be completed and a public hearing set.

There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Carol Alexander, Secretary
